Kutiyattam Kendra, an institution under Central Sangeet Natak Akademi along with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi is organizing a Kutiyattam Festival of Kerala, titled Natyadharmi 2017, to celebrate the aesthetics of Kutiyattam, the ancient and surviving Sanskrit theatre of Kerala/India and allied art-forms like Prabandhakoothu, Nangiarkoothu, etc. UNESCO has recognised this art form as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The five-day long event will feature Nangiarkoothu, Prabandhakoothu (Chakyarkoothu), Mizhavu Melam and Kutiyattam performances as well as lectures on relevant topics. The festival will give a unique opportunity to all art enthusiasts to watch these age-old artforms, in its authentic form, performed by maestros together with noted young artists. One special aspect of the festival will be the interactive sessions after each performance which will give the audience a space to share their feedback or to clarify any aspect related to the performance or the art-form.
Chamayam Exhibition
‘Chamayam‘, an exclusive exhibition of costumes and ornaments used in Kutiyattam is also arranged as part of the festival. It will be inaugurated by Sri. Kalamandalam Ramamohan, senior chutty artist and retired professor, Kerala Kalamandalam; on 17th Dec at 04.45 pm. There will be a make-up and chutty demonstration session starting from 04.00 pm on all days except the opening day.
