Nishagandhi dance festival at Thiruvananthapuram from January 20

Nishagandhi dance festival, the annual dance festival organised by Kerala tourism at Nishagandhi Auditorium in Kanakakunnu Palace premises, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala, India) will be conducted from 20 to 26 January 2018. The seven-day prestigious dance festival will present Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Odissi and Manipuri . Renowned dancers Deepika Reddy, Parshwanath Upadhye, Girish Chandra & Devi Girish, Alarmel Valli, Nadroop - Shama Bhate, Chitra Visweswaran & group and others will participate in the festival. This year Nishagandhi Puraskaram 2018, the award instituted by the Dept of Tourism, Govt of Kerala will be presented to the doyens of Bharatanatyam, the Dhananjayans.

Kathakali festival has also been organised on all days at the Palace auditorium.

NADAM, 'Narthan Academy of Dance and Music', is an academy founded by Kathak exponents Murali Mohan and Nandini Mehta to showcase and preserve India’s Classical Dance & Music Forms.

22 January (Monday):

Kerala Kalamandalam that follows the ancient Gurukul system was founded in 1930 by renowned poet Padmabhooshan Vallathol Narayana Menon. The institution gives training in the classical arts of Kerala like Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Mohiniyattam and Thullal.

The Kathakali festival as part of Nishagandhi dance festival will be conducted from 20 to 26 January 2018 at Kanakakkunnu Palace Auditorium.
